Rangers lead 3-1
In Game 4 of the World Series, the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-7.As the Rangers lead the best-of-seven series 3-1, they are one win away from securing the franchise's first championship.
Throughout the night, the Rangers led comfortably with five runs in both the second and third innings. This was the first time in World Series history that a team scored consecutive five-run innings.
A two-run triple by Marcus Semien and a three-run homer by Corey Seager powered Texas to a 10-run lead by the third inning. A commanding lead that they would not relinquish.
A shot by Jonah Heim completed the scoring in the eighth inning.
Both teams used their bullpens. However, Arizona did not fare well with this.
Despite being injured, Adolis García still motivated the team during the pregame ceremony. The words he spoke seemed to have an effect, as Texas led 10-0 after two and a half innings.
With the win, Texas improved to 10-0 on the road this postseason and moved within one win of winning its first title in its 63-season history.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a great night for Arizona. In the fourth, he hit a sacrifice fly, and in the eighth, he hit a three-run homer. There was a sacrifice fly by Tommy Pham in the eighth, and a two-run single by Gabriel Moreno in the ninth. In addition, Ketel Marte had two hits, extending his record postseason hitting streak to 20 games.
When taking a 3-1 advantage in best-of-seven series, MLB teams have historically won about 85% of the series.
Game 5 of the World Series is at 8:03 p.m. ET Wednesday.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBI as the Diamondbacks fell to the Rangers in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night.
Gurriel got the Diamondbacks on the board with an sacrifice fly of Andrew Heaney in the fourth inning, but all that did was pull the Diamondbacks to within nine runs at 10-1. He then slugged a 382-foot (101.8 mph EV) three-run shot off of Chris Stratton in the eighth inning that made it an 11-5 ballgame. For the postseason, the 30-year-old outfielder is hitting .274 (17-for-62) with three homers, 11 RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
The Rangers have replaced Adolis García (side) on their World Series roster with Ezequiel Duran.
The Rangers were hopeful that García’s oblique issue wasn’t going to keep him out for long, but after going through a workout and attempting to give it a go on Tuesday, the decision was made to shut him down for the remainder of the season. It’s a major blow to the Rangers’ lineup, as García has been the top run producer in all of baseball during the postseason.
