Blue Jays' Lourdes Gurriel Jr.: Added two hits on Monday.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was 2-for-4 and scored a run on Monday's 8-0 win over the Royals. The Cuban outfielder batted eighth in Jay's lineup, assuming fewer responsibilities and allowing him to focus on his mechanics. The change seems to be working for the younger Gurriel, who is now compiling a slash line of .348/.423/.348 during his last seven games.
Yordan Álvarez and Yuli Gurriel hitless on Monday.
Yordan and Yuli didn't collect any hits on Monday's 7-4 loss to the Mariners. Yordan went 0-for-4 with a walk, while Gurriel was 0-for-3, walked, and a strikeout. Yordan is having a tremendous season showing a slash line of .288/.386/.610 with 16 HR and 34 RBI, while on the opposite side, Gurriel is trying to get back on track having a terrible 2022 season with a .221 BA, 3 HR and only 15 RBI through 181 at-bats.
Padres activated RHP Michel Báez from the 60-day injured list; optioned him to Double-A San Antonio.
Báez will remain at San Antonio for now as he continues to knock some rust off following a long road back from Tommy John surgery. The tall right-hander holds a 2.51 ERA and 15/4 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 rehab innings to this point.
Vladimir Gutiérrez will be shut down for two weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 UCL tear in his right elbow.
It's the least severe of the grades, but obviously, any UCL damage isn't great. Gutiérrez has an ugly 7.61 ERA on the season.
Padres activated LHP Adrián Morejón from the 60-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A El Paso.
Morejón is fully recovered from Tommy John surgery, but the Padres want him to get some more work in in the minors before he rejoins the major league roster. The left-hander is unscored upon in his last five rehab appearances, boasting an 8/2 K/BB ratio and just one hit allowed over seven innings.
