MLB 2022 | Yuli snaps hitless streak, Yordan adds HR #22, Morejón to the IL again, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources.

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Snaps hitless streak. Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a double Thursday against the Yankees. It was his double #19 of the season, ranked fifth in the American League. Gurriel entered the game having gone hitless in his last four games and 14 at-bats. However, he snapped that stretch with a leadoff double in the eighth inning before being stranded. Gurriel is striking out only 14 percent of the time across 250 plate appearances this season, but he's still been able to muster just a .216/.268/.366 line.

Yordan Álvarez went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer on Thursday in the Astros' loss to the Yankees.

Álvarez crushed a three-run shot to right field -- his 22nd round-tripper of the season -- in the third inning off Yankees' starter Jameson Taillon. He also tattooed a 114.7-mph single to center field in the fifth inning to notch his 24th multi-hit performance in 62 games this year. The 24-year-old slugger has gone deep five times over his last five games. He's raised his offensive game to new heights this season, slashing an astronomical .317/.406/.665 with 46 runs scored, 22 home runs and 54 RBI across 261 plate appearances. If he keeps hitting like this, he'll contend for the American League's MVP Award this season.

José Abreu went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles on Thursday in the White Sox' loss to the Orioles.

Abreu and Seby Zavala were the lone White Sox' batters to record multiple hits in a shutout loss at the hands of the Orioles.

Padres placed LHP Adrián Morejón on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation.

It's the move that allowed the Padres to activate Joe Musgrove off the injured list for his start Thursday against the Phillies. Morejón returned from Tommy John surgery in early June and also spent time on the COVID-19 injured list. He's been effective when available, allowing only two earned runs across 4.2 frames while picking up a win Wednesday. Given his already significant history of arm injuries, this is a concerning development.

Rockies' José Iglesias: One single on Thursday.

Iglesias went 1-for-4, walked, and struck out twice in a 3-2 loss to the Marlins. Iglesias is on a five-game hitting streak and is slashing .303/.350/.375 this season.

Mets optioned RHP Yoán López to Triple-A Syracuse.

López, 29, gets sent down to make room for Seth Lugo after Lugo was activated off the paternity list. López will be nothing more than org depth for the rest of the year.

Luis Robert (leg) was out of the lineup Thursday against the Orioles.

Robert left Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays with leg soreness, and he'll sit at least one more game. The outfielder is considered day-to-day, and assuming there's no setback, he should be back in the lineup before the end of the weekend.

Mariners sent LHP Roenis Elias outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Elias was designated for assignment on Monday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The veteran left-handed reliever had allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings this year with Seattle. The southpaw has posted a 3.63 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 17.1 innings over 14 appearances (one start) in Tacoma this year, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him rejoin Seattle's bullpen at some point.
