Raisel Iglesias gave up a hit, walked one, and struck out one to lock down his 16th save of the year on Saturday against the Rangers.
Iglesias earned the save in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Rangers, striking out one and allowing a hit and a walk in one scoreless inning. Iglesias got Meibrys Viloria swinging on changeup to kick off the top of the ninth, but a Marcus Semien single and a walk put a runner in scoring position with one out. Luckily, Iglesias sat down two in a row to finish off the Rangers. Iglesias went a month between save conversions, as his was June 29. He had a spotty stretch with a blown save and two losses in mid-July, but he's settled down with no runs allowed in his last four appearances spanning four frames. The Angels' free fall in the standings has seen them win just six times in July, which has undoubtedly limited Iglesias' high-leverage opportunities. He owns a 4.11 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 48:9 K:BB across 35 innings while converting 16 of 19 save chances this year. In the same game for Texas, Adolis García went 1-for-5 collecting his RBI #63 of the year.
Néstor Cortés picked up his ninth victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, limiting the Royals to two runs on five hits over his five frames.
The left-hander punched out five on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Salvador Pérez in the third inning and a run-scoring single to Maikel García in the fourth, but that was the extent of the damage done against him. Cortés got 10 swings and misses on 90 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He'll tote an impressive 2.53 ERA and 1.02 WHIP into Friday's battle against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
Ray's Yandy Díaz homered on Saturday, Arozarena hitless.
Yandy Díaz homered as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-4 on Saturday. For Díaz it was his fifth homer of the year. Díaz went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, meanwhile Randy Arozarena went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
Astros' Yuli Gurriel and Yordan Álvarez: One hit on Saturday.
Gurriel and Álvarez went 1-for-9 combined on Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Mariners. Gurriel had a single for his RBI #28 of the year while Álvarez went hitless in four at bats with a walk.
Astros' Aledmys Díaz: Homers in second straight. Díaz went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, an RBI single and a walk in a 5-4 loss to the Mariners on Saturday. Díaz homered off Chris Flexen in the bottom of the fifth for his third home run over the last two games. Díaz has put together an impressive July, slashing .286/.351/.600 in 70 at-bats. The utility player now has 9 home runs and 25 RBI on the season and is producing out of the bottom third of the lineup. It is worth monitoring to see if he can build on his momentum in August.
José Abreu went 1-for-3 in Saturday's 3-2 win against the A's.
Abreu had a walk and a single against the A's batting clean-up on Saturday. The veteran slugger is slashing .299/.383/.460 with 11 homers and 48 RBI in 98 games this season.
White Sox OF prospect Oscar Colás was removed from Friday's contest for Double-A Birmingham after being hit by a pitch in the neck.
Colás was struck in the neck area with a pitch and tested negative for a concussion. The 23-year-old Cuban outfielder will also be re-evaluated on Sunday for precautionary reasons. It sounds like he's managed to avoid a potentially serious injury. He's been excellent this season in his professional debut, hitting .323/.383/.525 with 12 homers in 69 games between High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham.
White Sox's Yoán Moncada and Yasmani Grandal: Hitless on Saturday.
Moncada and Grandal went 0-for-8 combined on Saturday's 3-2 victory against the A's. Moncada struck out twice while Grandal left four runners on base. Both hitters have a low BA this season with Moncada sitting in .203 and Grandal in plain .200.
